Stained Glass at Zion

In 2007, stained glass, designed by artist Barbara Gautcher, was installed in the top portions of the windows in the sanctuary at Zion Mennonite Church.

Barbara Gautcher describes the series: "The main glass colors used are the colors of the created earth, variegated blues and greens with warm beiges, browns, and creams. The shapes are organic and representational yet simplified. The flowing lines move your eye from one window to the next, separate images yet a continued thought. The vine flows into and through each window because of the importance of being connected to God through Jesus."

Below is a basic description of the stained glass and the scripture that accompanies each.

I AM...

...the light of the world	An orb with light both entering into and spreading forth from the world.	John 8:1-12
...the vine	Grapes and grapevine - the vine is essential to our Christian life.	John 15:1-17
...the door	An open doorway and the path we follow when we choose to take the Christian journey.	John 10:1-10
...the Good Shepherd	Grazing sheep and a staff.	John 10:11-21
...the way, the truth, and the life	A cross on a hill.	John 14:1-14

DO THIS IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME...

...the bread of life	Stalks of wheat.	John 6:1-71
...the vine	Grapes and grapevine - the vine is essential to our Christian life.	John 15:1-17
...baptism	A pitcher and life-giving water flowing out.	John 1:19-34
...anointing	A vial and oil dripping from the opening. There is red in the vial because of the many references to blood and Jesus' healing power for us.	James 5:13-20
...servanthood	A basin and towel.	John 13:1-17
